Abstract: This talk will discuss the general steps involved in using patent protection to develop basic research findings into marketable products through the use of a private company start-ups, how biotechnology product development differs from other high tech (such as IT) product developments. This can lead into the different methods in obtaining financing to perform the requisite R&D to bring a biotech product to market, while explaining how a research scientist can learn to become an entrepreneur and what are the qualifications that he/she must have to make the transition process feasible. An account of how these steps were used to develop our novel anti-cancer products that have enormous clinical and financial possibilities will be given.
