Hong Kong SciFest Exhibition 19-22 April 2019

We participated in the Science Festival 2019 organized by the Hong Kong Science Museum this year with a booth displaying the Automatic Retinal Image Analysis (ARIA) for stroke risk. The exhibition was located under a huge tent outside of the Science Museum. On the first day, we have successfully done 162 ARIA-stroke risks. On the second day, the event was terminated in the afternoon due to a hefty rainstorm (Red rainstorm warning signal) and thunderstorm. The rain almost destroyed our fundus camera and computers as the ceiling of the tent was broken by the thunderstorm. Heavy rain and wind blow from both the sidewall and from the top. However, with all these calamities, we still managed to have 65 cases done that day. The third day was cancelled and reopened on the fourth day. The event was a great success; we have generated a lot of interest in the technology for both the students and the parents. A total of 391 demos have been done. We have identified 3.6% moderate stroke risk (ARIA-stroke probability of > 0.5) among the 391 individuals, and 2 individuals have a stroke risk higher than 0.6. There were 26% of cases in the 0.4-0.5 level and 59% in the range of 0.3-0.4, and 12% less than 0.3.
